A few days ago, we reported on a new line of Android-based Asus Eee tablets expected to be released in 2011. Asus may be getting a little too impatient for CES to arrive because more information has now been revealed about these tablets, coming straight from the horses mouth. The Asus Eee EP102 and EP101 appear to be those exact tablets, sporting a 10-inch screen (hopefully) running the much more tablet-friendly Honeycomb.

As some of you predicted in the comments, at least one of these tablets, purportedly the EP101, will have a detachable keyboard as shown in that chalkboard demo. The EP102 on the other hand appears to be some sort of slider tablet. As if my anticipation for CES couldn’t get any higher, Asus swoops in and teases us just a little bit more. Hit the break for two more pictures! [eeepc.it via CrunchGear]

Coby Kyros porn

We love these stories. A 12-year-old girl awakes on Christmas Day to find her prized present beneath the tree — an Android tablet. And, look, Santa! It’s already got porn apps installed on it! So instead of a white Christmas, they got a blue Christmas.

When confronted by the girl’s father on Monday, Coby senior product manager Michael Paladino said, "There is nothing preprogramed from Coby. LIke any other internet device with an open platform, a wide range of content is available which may require parental oversight." That’s true, parents should keep (erm) abreast of their kids’ online habits. I know I do.

But there actually are a few crimes here:

  1. Coby should have (ahem) bent over backwards to apologize and exchange the devices. That’s just good customer service. It’s doubtful the girl downloaded "Boobs! Butts! Babes!" and "Undress Me" on her own.
  2. The newscaster at WSIL-TV calls the Coby Kyros "similar to the Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle." Mmmmmm’kay.

Regardless, if you’re going to return a crappy tablet after (cough) using it, do the world a favor and follow our how-to for cleaning porn off the device. Little Suzie and her family will thank you. [WSIL-TV]

OK … which one of you perverts returned this Coby Kyros tablet posted originally by Android Central

VidTrim is a new app in the Market where you can do some light video editing straight from your Android device.  There are two versions, a free one, and a paid one.  What’s the differences between the two?  The main thing is the ability to save its 10MB file onto your SD card.  The paid version is only $0.96, so in my opinion, it’s probably worth it.

What does it do?  Well, exactly what it says. It trims down videos right on your device, has a “save as” feature, and allows you to read and delete them. With the paid version, you also get the ability to rename the videos.

At the very least, it’s worth checking out, especially with the fully-functional version for under a dollar.  For the record, it is necessary to be running Android 2.2 (FroYo) or better on your device.  It has been tested to work on the Nexus 1, Samsung Galaxy S, Nexus S, and according to FrAndroid, the Droid Eris.

A @cyanogen tweet earlier this afternoon brought tears of joy for many users. The latest batch of EVO 4G’s to leave the warehouse had a new camera. This meant that the drivers that worked for older EVO’s no longer work with the new hardware. Because of this, newer EVO 4G owners who wanted to use CyanogenMod6 have been without a camera for over 2 months. Some just decided to wait it out and have been using one of the many Sense ROMs that are available.

But now, the wait is finally over and everyone can rejoice! Head on over to any of the mirror sites and grab the latest CM6.1.2 update (make sure to do a Nandroid backup before installing). If you are coming from a different ROM, don’t forget the gapps zip file. Flashing this package after installing the ROM will allow you to sign into Google and use the Android Market.

This is from the so-crazy-it-just-might-be-awesome department. I received an email from a tipster who told me to “eat this” and prompted me to a German website playing host to what is allegedly the specifications to the upcoming HTC Thunderbolt.

You can click to embiggen.

The specs are beyond whack crazy, but even if some of them are true then forget the Optimus 2X. All specs listed in the picture are subject to change if mein Deutsch sucks.

  • 4.3″ screen
  • Dual-Core 1.2GHz processor
  • Gingerbeard
  • 8MP Camera w/2 LED flash
  • 5MP front camera
  • 16GB internal storage
  • 1800 mAh battery

Is it January sixth yet?

[via bestboyz.de | Thanks, Robert! It tastes delicious.]

Yeah, I don’t believe a damn word of this. But weirder things have happened.
From here on out, GOS means Grain of Salt.

Thunderbolt specs?

Stop what you’re doing, take a second and click the picture you see above.  If you’re reading on your phone, run to a computer — you want to see this.  Supposedly these are the specs for the European version of the HTC Thunderbolt, and they are amazing.  Almost too amazing.  According to HTCInside.de (a German HTC blog and fansite), the Thunderbolt will be released with the Qualcomm MSM8960 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, Gingerbread, an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera, and support for 128MB SDXC cards.

Is it real? Heck, we don’t know, and honestly, none of us thinks these specs are right.  But we offer it as-is, for you guys to dissect in the Thunderbolt forums.  Just don’t go blaming us if your heart gets broken. [HTCInside.de (German) via Pocketnow]

And you know what that means! Full retail for the Nexus S, if you can’t wait. It’s unclear if this is an issue across the board, or if only certain locations are going through T-Mobile activation withdrawals.

Has anyone been able to activate a new line of service, regardless of device, through any Best Buy medium over the past week? Let’s see if we can pin down what is going on and who is affected, if Best Buy doesn’t want to play nice.

Sprint seemed to have every intention of delivering FroYo Boxing Day. It came and it went, nothing happened. Now Sprint is addressing it to their employees:
nofroyo-epic-4g
With the closest thing to an ETA is “near future”, it’s probably time to look to the third party community for any updates from this moment on.

I’d like to play Devil’s Advocate for a moment, if I may. Samsung isn’t entirely to blame for the American release of FroYo on their Galaxy S line, or lack thereof. They provided 2.2 to almost every non-American version of their flagship phone leaving the American versions in the cold. Rather than accepting the Galaxy S for the Galaxy S, American carriers had to take on the role of prima donna and make their phone “special”; and by ‘special’ I mean morphing it into something that shouldn’t be allowed to bear the Galaxy S moniker. I would bet my bottom dollar that if the American carriers simply launched the Galaxy S as is (a great phone), everyone would have FroYo and the world would keep spinnin’. Voice your irritation to the carriers.

And to be honest, with the successor to the Galaxy S possibly heading to MWC, time is running out for the American variants. If Samsung plans the same world wide launch of this rumored device, they would be smart to tell every carrier that is interested: “Take it as is, or don’t take it at all”.

The HD2: The perfect example of great hardware(at release) powering the worst software HTC could possibly think of. Thankfully XDA felt the same way and got to work getting a real operating system on it. The world got to see Android on the HD2 and it was pretty great; with a constant stream of kernel updates and a slew of ROM devs the HD2 got the royal treatment. Unfortunately it was still a Windows phone and Android ran straight from the SD card.

Dark Forces Team fixed that and has given us the first NAND ROM of Android. Quick and dirty: NAND means the phone will boot straight into Android eliminating the need for haret.exe
DAF_SCREEN

The ROM that you’ll flash is a spin off of the HTC Desire ROM, which means it is a FroYo Sense build. Full instructions can be found here.

This would happen five days after I move to the G2.

lg_logoThe Korea Times is reporting that LG wont allow Motorola to be the only Honeycomb tablet unveiled at CES; rather Lucky Goldstar will have their own 8.9″ beast on display in Las Vegas next week.

We knew that LG was interested in getting into the Tablet game as soon as Honeycomb was ready, but all of that has been overshadowed by Motorola’s more publicly known entry, the XOOM.

LG also plans to show off “auto-stereoscopic 3D mobile displays” at the event, making LG a late but more than welcome headliner to the CES game.

Given LG’s readying of the new standard of super phone, the LG Optimus 2X as well as their intentions to increase investment, 2011 may be the year of LG.
