When we first obtained a copy of internal word that the HTC Thunderbolt would be capable of simultaneous voice and data over 3G, it was accompanied by notice that Mobile Hotspot functionality would not be included at launch. When Engadget got their hands on a revised version of the same notice the text was updated to state that the Thunderbolt will indeed be ready to go out of the box for Mobile Hotspot functionality. As the Verizon document states, “Great news!”

While Google I/O registration won’t open for everyone for another week or so, attendees of last year’s event are now receiving their go-ahead for pre-registration for the biggest Google event of the year. Those individuals registering early are even entitled to a special discounted rate, but space is limited for registration at that price. We’ve received word that some of last year’s attendees have already completed registration for this year.
You won’t be able to register if you did not receive and early invite, so if you didn’t find one in your inbox you will have to wait like everyone else.

We all know the feeling. A new Android handset starts to be rumored. Eventually pictures and FCC filings for the device begin to leak out. Based on speculation it is called the next big thing, and when it finally launches it sells out in mass quantitates. A few weeks later a new Android handset shows up at the rumor mill, and the cycle starts again. Without even owning an Android phone for more than a couple months we start questioning if we really got our money’s worth.

If you have experienced this situation, you are simply a victim of what a report at CNN is calling Android’s Law. As new iterations of the Android operating system are deployed, the manufacturing cycle of new smartphones featuring the OS becomes shorter. What once took a handset manufacture close to 10 months to accomplish is now being churned out at a rate closer to 7. That’s a shift from what was basically a year-long guarantee that something better wouldn’t come along, to a point where we might have six months at best to feel like the coolest kid on the block. With the large number of handsets announced at CES and even more coming at MWC, that life cycle could be getting even shorter.
But should this even matter? After all, the HTC EVO 4G launched last June on Sprint still stacks up pretty well to against the HTC Thunderbolt coming to Verizon later next month. The shorter life cycle also gives smaller companies such as ZTE and Huawei an opportunity to penetrate the Android smartphone market.
Does the shrinking lifespan of your mobile technology make you hesitant to purchase a new Android phone? Or does the great variety of choices make it an even better experience? Let us know in the poll below.

Are you twiddling your thumbs, waiting for the HTC Inspire 4G to officially drop so you can pick it up? Members on our Inspire 4G Forums aren’t settling for thumb-twiddling… they’re scavenging around the web picking apart any piece of Inspire 4G goodness they can find. And check out the gem they found courtesy of Radio Shack:

Yup, that’s a full flash-enabled demonstration guide for the HTC Inspire 4G that allows you to explore every little detail about the device. It’s packed to the brim with hardware and software overviews, setup instructions, and how-to tutorials. We’re guessing this was created by 3rd party and meant for Radio Shack to embed on their website, but we got our hands on it first. Unfortunately audio seems to be MIA but it’s better than nothing.
We know you’d rather be going through this guide with your Inspire 4G in hand, but until then do the next best thing: watch it, drool, learn, and share your excitement and frustration over on the Inspire 4G Forum!

Sony Ericsson just took to YouTube with a video detailing ANT+ – a communication standard used to communicate with all sorts of fitness products such as pedometers, heart rate monitors, and more. It’s software based – so all of their products will get it sooner or later – and enables you to look at your vitals on your phone. It’s a great solution for those who use more than one vitality sensor at once while they’re working out – this’ll feed you all the information you need to one central location. Sony Ericsson’s always been a big proponent of fitness, and ANT+ is just another step in helping you health buffs stay in shape.

We know the Swype keyboard is pretty awesome. But try this on for size: Hank Torres, who is paralyzed from the shoulders down, set a world record with Swype and a head tracking device at the Assistive Technology Industry Association Conference in Orlando. The sentence he cranked out in 83.09 seconds?
“The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.”
Pretty damned impressive, that’s for sure. Be sure to watch the video above, and the full presser’s after the break.

If you’re in the mood to mess around with an online demo of a device you just simply cannot, as of yet have then you’re in luck. The HTC Inspire 4G is coming to AT&T at some point in time but Radio Shack has been busy getting its affairs in order readying for the launch. The interactive demo is now online for folks to mess play around with and learn more about the device. Although I’m sure Radio Shack would have preferred to keep it under wraps a little longer. But hey they’re not exactly known for keeping secrets very well as history dictates.
Go ahead play around with the demo. Just remember, drool is bad for your keyboard. If online demos are not your thing, have a look at our very own hands on with the HTC Inspire 4G. [PocketNow via Phandroid]
