Now before I say anything else, I want to mention that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that cell phone radiation is harmful. Everyone and their grandma has heard it from someone else down the road. And while this isn’t Android-specific news, we thought it was relevant. Now then, the World Health Organization (WHO) has released a study that points to cell phone radiation causing cancer. You can read the whole article on CNN here, but it’s a bit long.

In a nutshell, they can’t be sure as of now, because they need more long-term studies to confirm it, but apparently the radiation that we get from holding our Android (or any other) phones up to our ears all day long is similar to a “very low-powered microwave oven”, in that it essentially cooks the brain. They go on to say that cancer and/or tumors could form, but other effects include cognitive memory function. The EEA (European Environmental Agency) is genuinely concerned that cell phones could become as hazardous as smoking, asbestos, and leaded gasoline.

So, we ask you, our faithful readers, what do you think about the rising concern for cell phone radiation? Are you worried? Leave your comments below or on our Facebook Wall! We look forward to your feedback!

According to Droid-Life, two of their readers informed that their Droid Pros received an OTA (over the air) update for Android 2.3.3 (better known as Gingerbread). We know that the rollout for the original Droid X Gingerbread update started last Friday, but we never expected for the Droid Pro to be next. We thought that the Droid 2 and its Global brother would be next in line for some 2.3.3 love. In any case, since there have been so few reports on the update, we’re starting to think this update may have been pushed out accidentally. We’ll do some digging and let you know if we find anything. And to be honest, the Gingerbread update for the Droid Pro is virtually the same as Gingerbread for the Droid X and Droid 2. So, do any of our readers have a Droid Pro that has received the Gingerbread update? Leave your comments below or on our Facebook wall!

If you haven’t had a chance to play around with an Acer Iconia, you’re missing out. I had the opportunity of using one for around 10 minutes at my local Best Buy, and I was very impressed. It’s powered by Honeycomb and a dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, just like the Motorola Xoom. I found it to be a lot lighter than the Xoom, which is one reason I loved it so much. But that’s beside the point. The Iconia Tab is now available for purchase from Office Depot for $449.99, the same price as Best Buy. This isn’t really huge news, but it’s good news for people like me, who live 45 minutes away from any kind of tech store.

So, if you have an Office Depot near you and want to check out the Acer Iconia, now is your chance! Has anyone bought an Iconia? What do you think of it? Let us know in the comments, or on our Facebook Wall!

ViewSonic has never really been known for making killer Android tablets, with a history of using older versions of Android on less than spectacular tablets with less than spectacular specs. But it looks like they’re ready to turn that around with the announcement of the ViewPad 7X. Looking at the specs, I’m impressed with ViewSonic. They went all out on this one. The ViewPad 7X features:

  • 7-inch,1024 x 600 LED display
  • Honeycomb (3.0.1)
  • A dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor
  • HSPA+ connectivity (T-Mobile, anyone?)
  • HDMI-out port and DLNA support
  • Rear- and front-facing cameras

There’s no word on a release date as of now, but we’ll keep you posted when we hear something. We also haven’t heard any whispers of a price range, but I expect the ViewPad 7X to be somewhere in the $400-$600 range.

So, who’s excited about ViewSonic’s latest offering? Anyone planning to pick one up when it drops? Leave a comment below, or on our Facebook Wall!

A press release hit the wires just a few hours ago with Sprint touting some of the bundled features for the upcoming EVO 3D.  While some of you will call it bloatware, others (and Sprint) perceive it as exciting, value-added content.  Either way you look at it, the EVO 3D will have a bunch of 2D and 3D ‘it’ when it arrives this summer.

For starters, The Green Hornet 3D will come loaded on the microSD card that comes with a select number of handsets.  If the Seth Rogen flick isn’t your cup of tea, then you’ll be able to browse the HTC Watch movie app where this and other 2D/3D movies and television programs can be rented ($2.99 to $3.99) or purchased ($8.99 and up).  The programming will be optimized for viewing on HTC EVO 3D but will also be available on other HTC devices, using the HTC cloud.

While on the subject of movies, the EVO 3D comes with the Blockbuster On Demand app with its own library of 2D and 3D content.  Rentals here are the same price at $2.99 to $3.99 each, and while purchases are lower at $4.99 and up.

Gameloft will be pre-loading  a demo version of Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem 3D  as well as their Gameloft Storefront app.  This application will give consumers quick and easy access to 2D and 3D games from the Gameloft repertoire.

Additional software expected on the EVO 3D include YouTube, Facebook, and Qik. Given that the phone is centered around its 3D capabilities, the apps provide a place for users to share their content with others.
