As we all know, battery life is something that we all keep an eye on with Android devices, and one of the biggest offenders in this is the brightness of the display. Setting the brightness of the display is rather easy, and something that can be changed at anytime without the need of rebooting the device or anything. Follow the few simple steps below, and in no time you will be in complete control of your devices brightness.
- Launch the device settings
- Scroll to Display
- Select brightness, uncheck automatic brightness
- Drag bar left to right to make brighter / dimmer
While the device defaults to Auto, this is not always the best setting as often times users can use the device at a lower brightness, which consumes less battery. In the direct sun light you may want to change it back to full brightness, but play around with it, and set it up to your personal preferences.

Facebook is silently rolling around a behind-the-scenes update that brings a slightly revamped interface to the application. While this update is not a market update, it is something that users have been able to force onto their device before they got it officially. To force this update to your device follow a few simple steps and you should be all set.
- Launch the application
- Press lots of buttons inside the application, while hitting back quickly to back out of it until the application Force Closes
- Accept the Force Close and then relaunch the application
- Enjoy your new interface
OK, that’s kind of the hard way, right? The trick is to make the app check in with Facebook to get the updated UI. (Complete with the little spinning categories thing.) Sure you could sit around and wait for the update, but where is the fun in that? Get to pressing and hoping for that force close, and be sure to let us know if it worked for you!
Thanks, Tobias!

I am pretty sure that everyone out there would be thrilled to get the email that we just got from the Shack this afternoon, telling us how we can win free phones for life! Check it out after the break.
Imagine if you could get the best new mobile phone for free every year for the next fifty years! Forget about waiting two years before being eligible for an upgrade. Want the new phone now, but just bought one last year? Don’t worry, The Shack will pick-up the tab. Totally free.
Between July 3 and July 30, RadioShack customers can enter the “Free Phones for Life” sweepstakes for a chance to win the grand prize of one free phone every year for the next fifty years. Customers can enter by making any purchase in-store or at RadioShack.com, or by signing up at RadioShack.com/FreePhonesForLife (no purchase necessary). Four lucky winners will be awarded a grand prize worth $25,000 (that’s a $500 phone for free every year, for fifty years!).
All purchases count as an entry, regardless of value. Limit of one purchase per store per day can be used as an entry in the sweepstakes.
That is a pretty sweet contest for sure, of course, we might not be using phones fifty years from now, but some sort of chip implant telemetry, but who cares!
Go enter the contest now already!

Plenty of questions come to mind when it comes to the various carriers and their Android endeavors. Some seem to get it right more often than not while others have been playing from behind (ahem, AT&T) since day one. Others seem to really want to the platform to help push them over the the hump. I’m looking right at you, T-Mobile.
Thinking back over the last few years, I came up with a bunch of rhetorical questions about the wireless players and their Android efforts. Some of them could be turned into a post of their own, argued on both sides. Normally I will toss these on twitter just to see how you guys and gals respond. Thinking they could be more fun as a whole, I decided collect them and break them into categories. So, here’s the first in a series of (at least) four rhetorical question posts.
I would love to hear your take on some of these so, please, feel free to comment below! No wrong answers here.
- Is the “Droid” branding getting too confusing to average consumers?
- How confusing would it be if Verizon simply stopped using it?
- How much do you really worry about the AT&T and T-Mobile merger?
- Ever switched carriers specifically to spite them?
- Ever switched back later because you realized the error in your way?
- Remember worrying about minutes?
- Do you worry about data in the same manner?
- Are you seriously going through that much data every single month?
- Why do carriers give us all the data-reliant apps and then throw roadblocks in the way?
- Why can’t we get rid of these apps without rooting?
- Does any carrier hold a new Android user’s hand better than Sprint with their ID Packs?
- Is it me or does it seem like T-Mobile can’t figure out rate plans?
- Do you remember thinking that Android was going to propel T-Mobile ahead of Sprint?
- Remember when their no-contract plans were the ticket to third place?
