Verizon Says Droid Bionic Twitter Account Isn’t Official

Earlier today we learned that the Droid Bionic would be dropping on September 8th, as seen in a tweet from @DroidBionic. As it turns out, this Twitter account is not affiliated with either Verizon or Motorola. What exactly does that mean? Basically, the September 8th date may or may not be true, but it didn’t come from an official source. We’re not exactly sure where that leaves us, but rest assured that the Droid Bionic Twitter page is not official, so anything that comes from that account might not be correct or accurate.

As for the Bionic itself, the Verizon site still lists September as a launch period, but no official date as of yet. We’ll just have to keep out eyes open for more information. So, who’s excited about the Bionic? Does anyone follow that Droid Bionic Twitter page? Drop a comment below!

Samsung Launches ChatON, A Cross-Platform Mobile Chat Service

Samsung hopes to compete with RIM’s BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) with the announcement of their newest service, ChatON. ChatON, which is expected to launch in September, will be showcased at IFA this week.

It is an interesting launch for Samsung, mainly because it will support a variety of mobile operating systems, including Samsung’s own Bada OS, Android, feature phones, and even competitors’ platforms, such as iOS and BlackBerry (Unlike BBM or iMessage).

Along with supporting mobile chat, ChatON will offer a web-based client that allows users to chat from their PCs as well. Users can have private 1-to-1 conversations or participate in group chats. ChatOn also supports sharing media, like photos, videos, voice messages, and contacts.

On feature phones, the service allows for text, images, calendar appointments, and contact sharing. But on smartphones, users will have a few extra options, such as the ability to comment on friends’ profiles, send multimedia messages that combine text and audio, and view their own “Interaction Rank,” which displays how active they are on the ChatOn network.

ChatON will go live next month in over 120 countries and 62 languages.

I’m personally excited for this service, because I would like to see how well it works in comparison to WhatsApp and other free messaging apps.

HTC Holiday to be Renamed HTC Raider at Launch

PocketNow have got a hold of the HTC Holiday’s user agent profile, which indicates that it will be named the HTC Raider at launch. Although this will probably be the global branding of the phone, it’s not known yet whether AT&T will choose their own moniker for the handset. Just to refresh your memory the Holiday/Raider will sport a 4.5 inch qHD 960 x 540 display and a Qualcomm 1.2GHz dual core processor. It will also have a 8MP dual LED flash rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera.
