Motorola has confirmed that their Honeycomb-powered Android tablet, the XOOM, will see Ice Cream Sandwich.  Without identifying a specific time frame or additional details, Matt (forums manager) does indicate that the company will issue Android 4.0 to the 10.-1inch tablet.  Considering the hardware hasn’t evolved too fast for Android tablets, there’s a good chance that a lower price point and newer OS could kick start some sales.

More appealing?

Would you consider picking up a Motorola XOOM if it had Ice Cream Sandwich?  Why or why not?

Thanks for the heads up, Antoids!

If you’re looking for another sign that Verizon will be offering the Galaxy Nexus in an exclusive deal, then we’ve got what you need.  A post on Samsung Mobile USA’s wall from the wee hours of the morning has been answered somewhat officially by the handset maker.  When asked which other carriers will be supporting the new Android 4.0 device, Samsung Janel replied that Verizon would get first crack and then, possibly, other carriers.  We’ve seen a number of clues that point to a Verizon deal however this just confirms the exclusivity, if only for a short term.

Verizon will be offering the Galaxy Nexus with the initial release. Other carriers may support this device in the near future.

Update: It appears Samsung Janel jumped the gun and has since retracted his statement. The game continues.

HTC’s got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell beats. When HTC gobbled up some stock in Beats by Dr. Dre, it had yet to be seen what the company planned to do with it. However, now HTC is working on releasing some delicious API goodies for Beats, now that the platform has been out on some HTC devices for a little while. According to HTC, the API tools will: “Allow third-party developers to harness the potential of Beats Audio and bring that top-notch audio experience to their own apps.” Although there’s no official release date for these tools, we hope that developers will take the platform and embrace it… or at least give the functionality some love.

You may or may not be disappointed with the Motorola RAZR after the Galaxy Nexus announcement but Motorola still thinks you should buy it. In fact, if you live in the UK you’ll be able to buy it starting in November for a price of £455 ($720 that includes VAT). No, that’s not cheap, but from what we’ve heard it kind of delivers the performance expected for that price. So, what do you think? Is the RAZR the coolest phone you’ve ever seen or a letdown given yesterday’s Galaxy Nexus announcement? Leave a comment below or post something on our Facebook wall.

Clove Technology (who I’ll admit I’ve never heard of before today) have just announced via their Twitter that they are taking pre-orders for the upcoming Galaxy Nexus. They’ll be selling the handset sim free for £429 + VAT (£514.80) and expect stock to arrive at the beginning of November. Clove also confirm that there will not be a 32GB version on the UK market at this stage, sorry folks.

If you’re too impatient to wait then hit up the source link and get that pre order down. As for myself I’m going to wait until closer to release in hope of the price changing (although having just re-checked their Twitter feed apparently that’s the confirmed price). I can’t wait to get my hands on this device, even though us Brits will only have the option of 16GB I don’t mind. I’ve yet to run out of space on my Nexus S and with most Google services moving to the cloud I doubt I’ll reach it on the Galaxy Nexus.

Let us know in the comments below if you’re thinking of pre-ordering from Clove.

OpenFeint, the secret cross-platform sauce behind hundreds of Android games, has issued a press release today touting their new Game Channel for Android. Designed to both help players discover new games and highlight developers, it’s also a perfect opportunity for OpenFeint to thump their chest.  We can’t blame them though as they have more than 120 million users and a massive library that grows by the day.

It’s worth pointing out that some of you might be aware of the Game Channel application, having already installed it for yourself.  Yeah, we’re a bit hazy here too as this is actually the 2.0 release.  Nevertheless, we imagine a lot of you weren’t hip to the app before so that’s why we ran with the press release.

OpenFeint Launches its Successful Game Discovery App, Game Channel on Android
Allows Free-to-Play Developers to Promote Games to 128 Million Cross-Platform Users

Burlingame, Calif.- October 13, 2011- Today OpenFeint, the world’s largest mobile social gaming network with over 120 million users, is announcing the launch of its highly successful mobile game discovery app, Game Channel, on Android.  Game Channel, which was previously available only on iOS devices, will showcase select Android titles through a number of creative strategies, with a focus on free-to-play gaming.

As the Android gaming market continues to mature and contend with the iOS gaming ecosystem, game discovery still poses a significant problem for Android developers and consumers. OpenFeint’s Game Channel app gives traditional and free-to-play mobile developers numerous promotional options to increase their exposure and grow their player base.

Game Channel features include:

Featured Game: OpenFeint will highlight one premiere game, ensuring high visibility among gamers for an extended period of time.

Free Game of the Day: Following the successful free-game-per-day model on Game Channel for iOS, Game Channel for Android will feature new free-to-play games each day. Most games will include free in-app items, creating a big incentive for players to download new titles.

Curated Game Lists:  OpenFeint will highlight top Android games to make game discovery easy for gamers. Lists will change based on player feedback, but will include categories such as:

  • Free Games That Rock: Featuring traditional or free-to-play mobile game that OpenFeint recognizes as high quality or particularly unique.
  • Feint’s Featured Picks: Highlighting games, including premium priced titles, that are highly recommended by OpenFeint.
  • New Games that We Love: Calling out exceptional games released in the past 30 days.
  • Seasonal and Promotional Selections: Displaying a rotating list that changes with seasons, holidays, and select themes.

“We learned a lot about discovery on Android with our Spotlight app and with Game Channel on iOS, and we’re confident Game Channel for Android will be the best way for Android gamers to find new titles on the platform,” said Eros Resmini, senior vice president of marketing and developer relations. “As Android gaming continues to mature, Game Channel will provide an ideal solution for free-to-play developers looking for innovative distribution channels.”

Game Channel on Android also gives gamers access to OpenFeint’s social features from directly within the app, allowing players to access their player profile page without leaving Game Channel.
