Looking to change up your Android home screen?  It doesn’t get much easier than swapping out the wallpaper; it’s one of the quickest ways to breath new life into the mobile experience. We are curating a collection of wallpapers for you, dear reader, and are only too happy to share the goods!

We’ll be adding to the collection on a regular basis and will occasionally highlight a theme or specific artist’s work we really appreciate.

About this collection

This collection of wallpapers is a dedicated to the common theme of geometry. Yes, we’re talking about circles, squares, triangles, and other shapes.

In digging up the following 25 wallpapers, we found that these basic shapes, combined with colors, make for great backgrounds to Android phones or tablets. In fact, we ended up having to enforce a limit (for now) so that we could focus on our next theme. There were just too many great geometry wallpapers for us to put in one collection. Rest assured, we’ll be back to revisit this theme again and again!

Amazon seems to be on a tablet price slashing spree lately, and the latest news seems to continue the trend. According to techcrunch.com, it is rumored that a $99 Kindle Fire 7? tablet is in production, and will be shipping this year. The new Kindle Fire HD will still have a TI processor like the rest of the lineup, and will have a 1280×800 resolution, just like today’s Kindle Fire HD 7? currently does.

amazon kindle 7in tablet

Is Amazon just trying to quickly move out stock, or do they have something else up their sleeves? No matter what the situation, it is definitely working in favor of the consumer. Earlier this month, Amazon announced reduced prices on its Kindle Fire HD 8.9? devices. The Wi-Fi-only version will cost $269, down from $299, while the LTE version dropped from $499 to $399.

You may think $99 is a joke, but IDC Research Director on Tablets, Tom Mainelli, says otherwise. According to Mr. Mainelli, he believes this year tablets running Google’s Android operating system will overtake the iPad for the first time, and the price seems very reasonable. (The Amazon Kindle Fire, of course, uses its own version of Android.)

In the end, the possibility of a $99 Kindle Fire HD is just a rumor, but one we can’t ignore. Amazon denies that such a price drop will be happening, so all we can do is wait patiently and see what will happen.

The first details of T-Mobile’s forthcoming UNcarrier strategy have surfaced online, albeit in a very unofficial manner. The document you see here comes courtesy of Engadget and spells out the preliminary pricing and Classic Plan options for T-Mobile’s new direction.

As it appears here, individual plans start at $60 per month and include unlimited talk, text, and 500MB of data. All plans, for that matter, will include the unlimited calling and texting; customers simply choose the data plan that fits their needs.

t-mobile-uncarrier-leak-engadget

All but the truly unlimited data option also include tethering (SMSH, or Smartphone Mobile Hotspot) as part of the package however you can add-on a bucket of tethering to the $90 unlimited data plan. Once you hit your tether allowance, the feature turns off for the remainder of the month. Not to worry, though, as your unlimited high speed data continues on.

Expected individual rate plans for T-Mobile UNcarrier strategy

  • $60 for Unlimited talk and text plus 500MB data (and unlimited tethering)
  • $80 for Unlimited talk and text plus 2GB data (and unlimited tethering)
  • $90 for Unlimited talk and text plus 4GB data (and unlimited tethering)
  • $100 for Unlimited talk and text plus 6GB data (and unlimited tethering)
  • $110 for Unlimited talk and text plus 8GB data (and unlimited tethering)
  • $120 for Unlimited talk and text plus 10GB data (and unlimited tethering)
  • $130 for Unlimited talk and text plus 12GB data (and unlimited tethering)
  • $90 for Unlimited talk and text plus unlimited data (must add tethering plan separately if desired)

Family plans follow a similar strategy in that customers pick the right data plan; mobile broadband options are also expected as add-on options for voice plans as well as standalone.

It is expected that T-Mobile announces the new plans at the upcoming March 26 event in New York.

google_play_music_concept_720

I was browsing a little website called Reddit (ever heard of it?) today when I came across a conceptual design for Google Play Music. Described as being the sort of desktop application for Google Play Music that the author/artist would like to see, it’s everything the tablet experience needs now. In short, it’s gorgeous, intuitive, and very Google-like.

I’m partial to the way Google Now cards could be implemented into the experience, especially if it leads to purchasing tickets and CDs as well as the option to learn more about the artists.

Other details I really like were the overall menu system, the persistent progress bar, and the right-click options that generally accompany Android’s long presses.

I don’t know about you but this is the sort (or start) of Google Play experience we should have on a computer and/or Android tablet. Sure, space could be better used in some spots, but really, it’s leaps ahead of the stuff we have today. Let’s hope Google’s team catches wind of the concept and implements some of these features or touches in the actual experience!

Google briefly released their note-taking application “Google Keep” on Sunday via Google Drive, and then quickly yanked it back out – but, not before screenshots were taken. The guys over at Android Police managed to get off a couple quick snapshots before everything went back down.

Google Keep closely resembles Google Notebook, a service that was discontinued in 2009, that let users clip and organize info from around the web, as well as Evernote. Google Keep is a rambunctious beast to keep caged away from public view, too – A screenshot was accidentally leaked in a Google+ post back in July 2012, straight from Google’s own account.

Some are expecting that Keep will come to the public very soon, while others speculate this was simply a “dev error” for a product not ready for release. Keep your news feeds pointed here for more information as it becomes available, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

sony_xperia_spl_l_720 Sony Mobile today introduced a pair of new Android smartphones, the Xperia SP and Xperia L. The two handsets are expected to get worldwide rollouts in the second quarter, however exact timing and carrier availability is unclear. The two smartphones feature quite a bit in common, including NFC connectivity, Sony’s media apps (WALKMAN, Album, Movies), One-touch functions for sharing, and Battery STAMINA Mode.

The Xperia SP features a 4.6-inch HD Reality Display, BRAVIA Engine 2, 1GB RAM, up to 8GB storage, microSD, and 8-megapixel camera. Powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Xperia SP boasts a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro dual-core processor.

The Xperia L also runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but employs a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, up to 8GB internal storage (microSD expansion), and 8-megapixel rear camera.   Don’t hold your breath for any U.S. releases, especially with a particular carrier. Sony has not done much in the recent past to offer their Xperia line with anyone outside of AT&T; most Xperia phones are sold as unlocked models. Sony Xperia SP Sony Xperia L Sony

samsung_game_pad_720

Among the many official Galaxy S4 accessories from Samsung, there’s one in particular that caught our eye. It’s called the “Game Pad” and it appears to be nothing more than a Samsung-branded MOGA-like controller. Presumably connected via Bluetooth, the device also locks in various smartphones.

Where things get interesting are in the specifications which indicate support for 4-inch up to 6.3-inch smartphones. Seeing as how Samsung has yet to announce anything with that screen size, it stands to reason this is the display size for the upcoming Galaxy Note 3.

We’ve heard plenty on this front regarding the screen size for the presumed smartphone but this seems to be a little more on the official side.

With word of an HTC One delay hitting the internet yesterday, a number of you were wondering whether or not the flagship smartphone would arrive in March. Reportedly, the UK edition is pushed back two weeks from March 15 to March 29. As for the U.S. models, we had not heard anything on either side of the matter.

According to our friends at HTC Source, the U.S. models will not be affected by the delay. A tipster on the inside claims that our localized editions are on their own timetable.

“The statement doesn’t apply to US models. The US carriers are on a separate timeline”

Of course, HTC has never given us a time frame for the release here in the United States and none of the carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile)have given any indication. With that in mind, there is technically no way for the HTC One to be delayed…yet.

tmobile_carly_720T-Mobile today announced that the FCC has officially given the go ahead on the proposed T-Mobile and MetroPCS merger. Initially announced in October 2012, the two carriers are hoping to join and offer shared spectrum portfolios, and roll out a better 4G LTE experience

“We are pleased with the FCC’s approval of the proposed transaction,” said Roger D. Linquist, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of MetroPCS. “We thank the FCC for its prompt review of our proposed combination with T-Mobile, which will create the value leader in the United States wireless marketplace.”

All that stands in the way of the merger is stockholder approval by MetroPCS’s board. A Special Meeting is slated to take place on April 12, 2013.
