Just like they did before when all the cool kids were mocking antennagate (funny how a couple million dollars of free cases will silence critics so quick), Motorola is flinging the proverbial poo at Apple in their latest full-page ad for the Droid 2 found in the New York Times. This time they take Apple to task on Flash, which actually was in vogue before the whole antenna thing but has sort of settled down as the two sides more or less agreed to disagree.

The ad reads, “Flash websites? There’s a phone for that.” That should ring familiar to anyone who has repeated or mocked Apple’s successful “There’s an app for that” campaign.

Now I have nothing against Flash for mobile — in fact, you may recall my stance that it likely will do more good than harm — but is it a selling point worthy of a full page ad that snidely jabs at the competition? Probably not. Still, we give Moto props for exhibiting their grapefruit sized testicles once more.

The Droid 2 has been making its rounds as we inch closer and closer to launch (and – strangely enough – Verizon hasn’t made a formal announcement this close to the rumored launch date. We usually see them spill the beans a week ahead of time) and that trend continues with this full page ad that’s been showing up in various newspapers.

droid 2 full page ad

There’s nothing entirely special to see here: the latest Droids are lined up beneath the unreleased Motorola Droid 2 with a hint of availability: we should see the device “coming soon”. Oh, and we’re also urged to rule our empire with iron thumbs with these devices, but I’m just not sure if I can undergo such a transition. I like my flesh… well maybe I can give up just one of my thumbs for any of these.

We’ve also been treated to some early pricing details from Best Buy. As they usually price these types of devices, the Droid 2 will be available through them for $199.99 after a two-year agreement and $599.99 if you want to walk out with no contract to fiddle around with. The prices may vary if you’re buying straight from Motorola or Verizon (or any other third party retailer).

Finally, the original Motorola Droid is now out of stock from Verizon. Just in time for the Droid 2 to stroll in August 12th, no?

Take a look at a full-page New York Times ad  featuring the forthcoming Droid X.  We didn’t realize it at the time, but there’s something really awesome about the phone that was overlooked on launch day.  Apparently, the phone is designed in a way that allows the user to decide how to hold it.  Just another example of Android’s freedom of choice.
