LTE: it’s all over the place. It just is. Not in a saturation way, but in a chaotic, crazy, man-someone-should-really-fix-this kind of way. there’s so many different versions in so many different markets, travelling with solid LTE is almost impossible right now.

Now, Qualcomm has announced the RF360, and is making some pretty big claims about it – namely, that it could be the world’s very first LTE-compatible, global front end solution. Qualcomm is saying the solution could be out in the second half of 2013. For full specifics, be sure to hit the source link below.

Verizon is expected to introduce a pair of new unlimited prepaid calling and text plans on February 1, according to PhoneArena. A post from late last week tells of new $60 and $70 options which offer unlimited talk and text. At $60 per month, customers will get 500MB of 3G data, however the $70 plan provides up to 2GB of 3G data. Those on the current $80 plan (1GB data) can keep their plan though it is unclear why they would want to do that.

Keep in mind, this is only a 3G data connection so those of you who expect to super fast speeds and downloads will be disappointed. For whatever reasons, Verizon does not offer a 4G LTE prepaid option.

tmobile_720_aT-Mobile just wrapped up their press event at CES, and they had quite a bit to announce. While nothing monumental was showcased, we got a peek at what Magenta will be up to in the coming year. T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere announced that T-Mo is working to have 100 million customers covered in LTE by mid-2013, and 200 million by the end of the year. It’s certainly a tall task, but they seem to be up for the challenge. On the heels of that, we got word of an LTE-equipped Galaxy S3 that’ll be available fairly soon. Along with their LTE rollout, T-Mobile will have to launch a whole new (or updated) line of LTE-capable devices.

Moving along, Magenta also announced that it is the official wireless partner of the MLB. They celebrated this by bringing several baseball players on stage, and throwing around a few sports jokes that went over almost every head in the room. T-Mo plans to embrace this partnership by “providing an On-Field Communication System that is powered by its nationwide 4G network technology.”

4g_wonderland

In the 4G realm (at least the non-LTE variety), we also got wind that T-Mobile’s recently introduced Unlimited Nationwide 4G data plan will be available for no-contract customers beginning tomorrow. Also on the 4G docket was the announcement of something called “4G Connect,” which will apparently “make 4G connectivity a standard, integrated and free feature on select notebooks, tablets, and ultrabooks.” We’re not exactly sure what T-Mobile plans to do with this, but we’ll keep our eyes on it.

The hits keep coming, as they also rolled out their latest innovation in the form of “HD Voice.” A demo showed the difference between standard calls and those using HD voice, and the difference was reportedly very significant. T-Mobile is the first carrier to announce a feature like this, possibly in an attempt to prove that they’re doing new and innovative things. In addition to this, the nation’s value carrier also announced a few more cities that have undergone network modernization. Those include Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, and Virginia Beach. With this came the boast that 126 million users are now covered with HSPA+, and even more will enjoy it soon.

So there you have it, all the announcements from T-Mobile’s CES press event. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely excited to see Magenta grow out its LTE network this year. But enough about that, we want to know what excited you the most from this slew of announcements. Are you looking forward to HD Voice? Anyone planning to take advantage of those no-contract unlimited 4G plans? Sound off in the comments below!

On the heels of yesterday’s announcement of three new devices from Alcatel, The company has announced two new devices in the same vein: the Scribe HD LTE, and the 1080p Scribe X.

The Scribe X is a higher-end device, and comes out of the corner swinging in the spec department. We’re looking at a 5-inch display, 1080p full HD display, Jelly Bean, a quad-core 1.4GHz CPU, and dual cameras: a 12MP rear (which we’re seeing a lot of from CES this year), and a 720p capable front shooter. The company also hinted towards lots of great features and accessories that center around move and photo editing, as well as wireless sharing.

As far as the Scribe HD LTE, we’re looking at a slightly lower end version, showing off 4G LTE, along with the same size display as the X without the HD, a quad core chipset, and Android Jelly Bean. No news on RAM, storage, or battery at this time. Full presser after the break.

The number of 4G LTE smartphone shipments will triple in the coming  year, says research firm Strategy Analytics. Forecast to hit 275 million in 2013 this will dwarf the 91 million shipments over the last 12 months. Among the companies poised to capitalize most are Samsung, LG, and Apple however rising tides lift all boats. With that in mind, 2013 should also help Motorola, HTC, Pantech, ZTE, and Huawei.

“It is clear that 2013 will be the year of 4G. LTE smartphone shipments worldwide will exceed a quarter-billion units for the first time. Multiple operators and multiple phone vendors will be launching dozens of LTE models across numerous countries worldwide. LTE has quickly become a high-growth, high-value market that no operator, service developer, component maker or device vendor can afford to ignore.” - Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics

AT&T, wanting to finish out the year strong, has another five markets officially getting 4G LTE coverage. Bringing the total number of markets to 125, there’s still plenty of catching up to do if they hope to compete against Verizon’s 440+ areas. That said, each week seems to bring 4-6 new market announcements for AT&T.

  • Green Bay, Wis.
  • Springfield, Mass.
  • Tucson, Ariz.
  • Melbourne, Fla
  • Oxford, Miss.
