Looks like we’ll be waiting a bit longer for Samsung and Google to unveil their big project.  Widely expected to be the announcement of the Galaxy Nexus, October 11th was the date we had circled on our calendar.

Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.

Word around the campfire is that this will still happen before November so we’re anxious to learn the details.  Our hope here is that all this does is shorten the window between announcement and release.  We haven’t heard anything in the way of a delayed product release, only the announcement part.

A Samsung handset carrying the model number of SCH-I515 was found in the Bluetooth SIG yesterday, adding credibility to whispers of a ‘Prime’ device. Whether or not it’s going to be called the Nexus Prime or Droid Prime remains to be seen however the rumored October launch ensures we’ll find out more in short order. The description tells us that this is a CDMA device headed to North America, narrowing the list of carriers down very quickly. Toss in the ‘SCH’ prefix for good measure and we’re very optimistic that this is Verizon’s baby. For reference, Droid Life reminds us the Samsung Droid Charge carries the model number of SCH-I510.

GPA17

We love reader-submitted ROM reviews, and once again we have Android Central member digitalslacker and his the Nexus S 4G, bringing us a review of GPA for the Nexus S 4G.  This one is a treat — Peter Alfonso is a developer a lot of you guys already know, and now he is working with the NS4G to see what he can squeeze out of it. Hit the break and see what Pete has done with the blank slate Google and Sprint has given us.

Editor’s note: Like many custom ROMs, the nightly builds of GPA are always changing (that’s why they are called nightly!).  The current nightly version may have minor changes from the reviewed version, but the overall experience should remain the same.

Discuss ROM, hacks, and more for the Nexus S 4G
Thanks, digitalslacker!

Oxygen ROM

We’re back with another reader submitted ROM review, this time around we have Android Central member digitalslacker showing some love for the Nexus S 4G with a great review of Oxygen ROM.  I’ve used this one for the GSM flavor of the Nexus S, and he hits it right on the head with his review — a sweet ROM for a sweet phone.  Hit the jump and check it out.

Is your Nexus S 4G receiving slower-than-usual 4G speeds? Sprint aims to fix that today, as they release Android 2.3.5 for the device. The OTA update also fixes some minor WiFi bugs, adds a 4G toggle widget, and oficially enables NFC. Hopefully this update will boost Nexus S 4G sales as well. Now, the real question here is “Are there actual improvements in 4G speeds?” Engadget says yes, as they have provided us with some screenshots showing 4G speeds on an updated Nexus S 4G (the speeds on the left are the updated device, and those on the right are from a 2.3.4 Nexus S 4G).

So, who’s excited for some faster 4G on their Nexus S? Leave a comment below!
