Samsung Conquer 4G

The Samsung Conquer 4G goes on sale today at Sprint stores, online, and telesales for a cool $100 on a two year contract. The mid-range Gingerbread device sports a 3.5 inch HVGA display, 1GHz processor, and both front and rear cameras. Oh, and let’s not forget that the Conquer runs on Sprint’s WiMAX network. Pretty powerful stuff for a pretty low price. Anyone running out to grab one today?

Sprint Mobile IP relay

A quick peek at the description for the Sprint Mobile IP Relay app, designed to allow users with hearing disabilities to place relay calls using text on Android phones, gives us a look at some upcoming devices — Notably the Samsung Galaxy S II.  Listed along side things we know and love like the Optimus S and HTC EVO 4G, we see the Galaxy everyone is aching for, as well as the mid-range Samsung M930 (a qwerty slider said to be heading to Boost Mobile) and the decidedly low-end Kyocera Oblique.

Nothing here is really new — and anyone can put anything they want in their app’s description. But seeing it in print — err pixels — is bound to make more than a few happy.  The Galaxy S II is coming, and I know quite a few folks on Sprint ready for it.

Facing increased competition from Sprint and MetroPCS, Verizon Wireless is considering expanding their $50 unlimited prepaid plan to additional markets.  Currently being offered in Florida and California as Unleashed, the trial is said to have gone “very, very well” for Verizon.  Customers on the no-commitment plan are able to enjoy unlimited voice, text and web for $50 per month, somewhat in line with other carriers.

Why the added focus on pre-paid?  Verizon ended June with 4.4 million prepaid customers, down 3.4-percent as compared to last year.  In the meanwhile Sprint grew their prepaid segment by 5.1-percent while MetroPCS ratcheted their’s up by 19-percent.
