With Christmas right around the corner, a lot of you procrastinating shoppers are probably starting to lose a little hair trying to figure out what to get the techie on your list. Thankfully, eBay Daily Deals is here to help with an HTC Evo View tablet for just $240 – and that’s with no contract. Think you can get it through Sprint for the same? Think again, as this is a huge $160 off Sprint’s price.

For those of you needing the specs, here you have it:

  • 7-inch 1024×600 display
  • 1.5GHz single-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB storage, microSD card slot
  • 5MP rear shooter, 1.3MP front
  • Android 2.3 with Sense
  • Scribe Stylus Pen support, though no pen is included in the deal
  • It should also be noted that, while this tablet is running Android 2.3, the Honeycomb update just came to the states for its GSM cousin, so we will likely see the same update for this version

There’s no telling how long this deal will stick around, as we’ve seen it a couple times before, but we suggest you get your rear in gear and pick one up while the deal is there and in stock! Check out the eBay link here.

How would you like to measure your Android’s battery life in terms of weeks instead of days or hours?  That may soon be a reality thanks to Mirasol Mems technology which promises up to three weeks of life and uses no backlight.  One of the first devices to offer this display technology, the Kyobo Book Centre, has landed in the real world and Netbook News was able to check it out.  Hardware includes a 5.7-inch 1024×768 display, a single-core 1GHz Qualcomm S2 processor, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Putting that aside, what did they think of the screen technology?

Video playback came in just under 30 frames per second which they found to be good enough for average viewing however gaming enthusiasts will not be impressed.  Given the technology is geared more toward eReaders, it would be more than sufficient for books, magazines, and general video (no YouTube HD).

Colors were described as decent but not vibrant and viewing angles were less than impressive.  The glossy display affected color brilliance in sunlight however it’s not essential to be glossy for mobile devices.  Results will ultimately vary depending on what hardware makers decide to do with it.

We likely won’t see anything in the ways of Mirasol devices until the second half of 2012 but partner announcements may come in the next few weeks at CES.  The eReader in the video will retail for roughly $310.00 (US) with the option to get a discounted one for $265 assuming you live in Korea and have a Kyobo loyalty rewards membership.

The latest platform figures are out, and as expected, Gingerbread leads the pack. Gingerbread is now on more than 50 percent of Android devices while Android 4.0 is as absent as an official Verizon Galaxy Nexus release date. Froyo continues to decline but still remains second in command with a 35.3 percent stake. Surprisingly there are still .8 percent of devices that simply refuse to die and continue to run Android 1.5.

These numbers help developers make decisions about which OS versions to support and reflect the number of Android devices that have accessed the Android Market within a 14-day period usually ending on the 1st. What I want really want to know is — where are the last of the Cupcakehicans? Come on, don’t be shy, give a proud shout out in the comments!

Late last week we informed you of Sprinkle hitting the Android Market, a game where you help an alien species inhabiting Titan, one of the moons of Saturn. Earthlings have crashed through Saturn’s rings, sending meteors crashing into Titan, it’s your job to help this alien race by taking command of a water cannon mounted on a crane to extinguish the fires before they engulf the Titans homes.

The game features 48 levels, the majority of which are locked when you first begin playing. To unlock these levels you need to have a certain amount of water droplets (kind of like stars in Angry Birds), with each level able to give you a maximum of four 5 droplets. Droplets earned depends on the amount of water you have left once you extinguish all of the fires in that level.

Controls

You can control the height of the crane by dragging your finger up and down whilst placed on the water cannon and the direction by moving your finger in an arc motion just in front of the nozzle. Water is fired by holding a big red button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, with a meter to let you know how much water you have left. I’ve been playing the game on my Motorola Xoom and found the 10.1″ screen a little too big for controlling the crane perfectly. It’s not a major issue but a little frustrating when you rotate the firing angle instead of lowering the height of the crane, wasting precious water.

Gameplay

The gameplay is challenging and there’s also something extremely satisfying about firing the water and watching it slosh about. The levels get evermore challenging the further you progress, eventually involving the moving of stone boulders or blocks of ice to block some gaps where the water would drain away. One thing a really like about the game is the music and SFX, I actually like listening to them whereas they’re the first things to be turned off on some games. I’m really enjoying the game but I’m not finding it addictive enough, I don’t have the urge to go back and finish every single level, never mind earning four drops on each one.

It’s worth pointing out that Sprinkle is only compatible with Tegra 2 devices, so don’t go buying it if your device doesn’t use this chip and then miss the refund window. Also some users have reported successfully running it on non Tegra 2 devices using Chainfire 3D. This app requires root, but it can help intercept and change commands running between apps and GPUs, meaning you can run games like Sprinkle on your non Tegra 2 device. The method is not without risks though so use at your own peril and make sure you know all the risks before attempting to use the app.

The controls can be frustrating on larger screens and a first play through might not take very long but I feel for $1.99 this game is totally worth it. What do you guys think? Have any of you tried Sprinkle? What did you think of it? Let us know below.

PocketNow have got a hold of the HTC Holiday’s user agent profile, which indicates that it will be named the HTC Raider at launch. Although this will probably be the global branding of the phone, it’s not known yet whether AT&T will choose their own moniker for the handset. Just to refresh your memory the Holiday/Raider will sport a 4.5 inch qHD 960 x 540 display and a Qualcomm 1.2GHz dual core processor. It will also have a 8MP dual LED flash rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera.

Who’s excited for the device and what do you think of the launch name? Let us know in the comments!
